This month we will be experimenting with plant-based photography, a technique used by former Cove Park resident Edd Carr who creates photographic animations from sustainable and natural materials. Chemigrams are traditionally made by painting a mixture of chemicals onto light sensitive paper, however Edd, who co-founded the Sustainable Darkroom uses a process which uses plant-based developers instead of harsh chemicals. This process will allow us to make one-of-a-kind photographic images without a camera or harsh chemicals and is a key step in the process that Edd uses to make his animations.
This workshop is an important part of our work with NAARCA (the Nordic Alliance of Artist Residencies on Climate Action) and is one of the workshops that will make up a pedagogical toolkit to help share information and influence actions around climate change. As part of the testing of the toolkit our Curator of Engagement Emma Henderson will run this workshop to insure all instructions and processes are tested prior to launch. Expect a fun and experimental workshop!
